About Grant County Property Records

Property records for Grant County are split across several county offices - the recorder keeps the deeds, the assessor keeps the values, the treasurer keeps the tax bills, and the GIS office keeps the parcel maps. Answering a simple question like who owns a property or what it last sold for often means visiting three or four separate portals. We built this site to map all of it, so an address or an owner name leads you to the right office and the right record on the first try.

Why This Site Exists

Property information in Grant County is spread among offices with different jobs. The County Clerk records deeds and maintains the indexes; the Assessor maintains property accounts and valuations; the Sheriff’s Tax Office collects real and personal property taxes; and Mapping and Addressing maintains parcel and address information. We bring together links, contact details, known record coverage, and practical search guidance so visitors can find the right custodian without treating these separate sources as one database.

What You Will Find Here

  • Pages by record type: property search, deed records, property tax records, and parcel maps
  • The offices behind the records: the Grant County Clerk, Assessor, Sheriff’s Tax Office, and Mapping and Addressing
  • Search walkthroughs: ways to begin with an address, owner, map and parcel number, deed reference, or tax ticket, then verify against the record custodian
  • Access rules: public-record request guidance under the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, along with known online access limits and details that must be confirmed with an office

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately operated reference site, not an office of Grant County, a West Virginia agency, or a court. We link to public resources but do not hold county records. In particular:

  • Only the custodian can provide or certify a record and correct its official entry
  • A public index is not a complete title search and does not establish clear ownership
  • Assessed values and tax decisions belong to the county offices, not this site
  • Our explanations are not legal advice on deeds, boundaries, or tax disputes
  • Portal availability, record coverage, and office procedures can change; confirm details directly before relying on them

Ask the office that holds a record to confirm or certify it. A title company or licensed surveyor can address title and boundary questions. Information from this site must not be used for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or other decisions regulated by the FCRA.
